Introducing FusionPro® Verso

FusionPro Verso is the new standalone template editor for FusionPro. Purpose-built for creating, editing, testing, and composing variable data templates without requiring Adobe Acrobat. Verso brings the FusionPro tools template creators use every day into a dedicated workspace designed around variable data publishing rather than general-purpose PDF editing.

For years, FusionPro template creation has leveraged the Adobe Acrobat plug-in. That workflow helped make FusionPro accessible to designers familiar with PDF-based production, but it also meant that the FusionPro experience was tied to the development, release, and security environment of another application. Verso changes that model.

With Verso, FusionPro controls the template-building environment. The result is a focused workspace where FusionPro functionality is readily accessible, template creation is purpose-built for VDP, and future enhancements can be developed around the needs of FusionPro users.

Start with a PDF

Verso makes it easy to turn an existing PDF into a FusionPro template. Open your PDF directly in Verso and use the FusionPro tools to add variable content, data, rules, and other template elements.

1 Launch FusionPro Verso.
2 Open the PDF you want to use as the design background.
3 Use FusionPro tools to add frames and associate content with data.
4 Define or review data fields and rules as needed.
5 Preview the template with your data.
6 Compose locally, send the job to FusionPro Producer, or collect the job for FusionPro Server and supported online systems like MarcomCentral.

Creating a New Document

You can now create a document directly in Verso by using the File tab in the main menu, a PDF is no longer required. You can then define the page, draw frames, associate data, create rules, and build the template without a PDF background.

1 Choose File > New.
2 Set up the document and page structure.
3 Draw and position frames.
4 Associate frames with data and rules.
5 Add resources and variable content as required.
6 Preview and compose the finished template.

InDesign Integration

Verso does not replace the familiar FusionPro InDesign design workflow. Instead, it gives that workflow a new destination.

The plug-in supports export to both Adobe Acrobat and FusionPro Verso. Designers can continue to use InDesign to create the base design, then choose the destination that fits their preferred workflow.

Working with Existing FusionPro Templates

Verso is designed to provide a straightforward transition from the Acrobat-based FusionPro workflow. Existing FusionPro PDF templates created with the Acrobat plug-in can be opened in Verso without template modification.

When an existing FusionPro template is opened, Verso is designed to carry forward:

Defining and managing the data that drives personalization. FusionPro’s data-definition workflow remains central to the template creation process.

Add Business Logic

Create rules that determine what content appears, where it appears, and how the document responds to different data conditions.

Preview

Use Preview to validate the data and how it interacts with the template before production.

Compose

Compose locally when appropriate or send jobs to FusionPro Producer. Jobs can also be collected for FusionPro Server and supported online systems such as MarcomCentral.

Collect

Move completed jobs into online workflow opportunities that best fit your environment, like MarcomCentral, to automate the inbounding of printable assets.

FAQs

  • Is Verso a plug-in to any product?

    No, Verso is a stand-alone program for Windows or Mac. It requires no additional software to operate.

  • Will Verso open my old templates?

    Yes. FusionPro Verso can open PDF files created with the FusionPro Acrobat plug-in. Existing FusionPro rules, resources, data definitions, and settings are designed to carry forward into Verso without requiring template modification.

  • Will Verso export to FusionPro Producer and Server?

    Yes. Verso can send jobs to FusionPro Producer and FusionPro Server, as well as support online systems such as MarcomCentral, in the same general workflow customers are familiar with from the Acrobat plug-in.

  • Do I need a PDF to use Verso?

    No. A PDF is optional. Use File > New to create a document from scratch, then draw frames, associate data, create rules, and build the template. If you have an existing PDF, you can open it in Verso and build the FusionPro template from that starting point.

  • Does Verso support the FusionPro InDesign plug-in?

    Yes. The InDesign plug-in provides Export to Acrobat and Export to Verso options. The existing InDesign workflow and its options continue to be supported while Verso provides a new destination for template creation.

  • Does Verso replace Adobe InDesign?

    No. InDesign remains an important design tool and the FusionPro InDesign plug-in continues to support export into the FusionPro workflow. Verso is the standalone FusionPro template editor used after the design is prepared, or independently when a PDF is not required.

  • Does Verso require Adobe Acrobat?

    No. Verso is fully self-contained and does not require Adobe Acrobat.

  • Why was Verso created?

    Verso gives FusionPro control of the template-editing environment. Historically, the FusionPro Acrobat plug-in operated within Adobe Acrobat, which meant the FusionPro experience was influenced by Acrobat’s release cycle and security model. Verso provides a dedicated environment built specifically for FusionPro template creation.

  • What operating systems does Verso support?

    Verso is provided for both Windows and Mac.

  • Will the Acrobat plug-in continue to be supported?

    FusionPro intends to continue supporting the Acrobat plug-in. However, changes in Acrobat security may prevent the plug-in from working with upcoming Acrobat releases. FusionPro will evaluate whether changes can be made to support the more restrictive security environment. Older supported Acrobat versions can continue to be used with compatible FusionPro releases.

  • Is there an additional cost for FusionPro Verso?

    No, FusionPro Verso is included in the next version update of FusionPro. If you have a license for any FusionPro version14 product, you can download version 14.3 which includes an early release version of Verso. If you are on maintenance with any FusionPro product, you can upgrade to version 15 at no extra cost for the full Verso experience.
